Local History

Get hands-on with the Museum’s object handling collection combined with a historical study of the 17th century founder of British natural history who came from Essex – John Ray.

Workshops

Life Cycles and Classification

An interactive group session which will
introduce pupils to John Ray’s pioneering
studies in animal life cycles
and classification.

Bones and Movement

This session explores the skeleton and
structure of different animals. Pupils
will learn about the bones, joints and
movement of different animals.

John Ray Gallery

Pupils will have the opportunity to visit the
John Ray History Gallery and explore our
discovery area.

Lunch

We have indoor lunch facilities for schools to use.

The Victorians

Braintree District Museum is housed in a former Victorian School, providing the perfect setting for your Victorian
experience. The day is full of interactive and hands-on learning and can be run for KS1 or KS2 pupils.

World War II

This immersive day allows pupils to re-live the experience of a wartime evacuee, discovering the hardships and heroism of World War II with a focus on the local realities of the conflict.
